Confession time. I shop at Walmart at least once a week. I usually shop for groceries, household needs, gifts and seasonal items, so I was thrilled when I was given another reason to shop at my local store!

When Walmart Canada was looking for Frugal Heroes who wanted to be challenged, I hardly needed an excuse to go shopping! The Frugal Hero Challenge was to buy all the necessities for a project of your choice, for UNDER $100! Seemed difficult, but I was up for it!
With our momstown National conference coming up this month, I knew that buying our business and team building event supplies for 27 of us, was going to be a big expense this month. I was curious if Walmart would not only have the conference supplies that we needed, but also if we could get them at a better price than the other business supply stores. Getting it all for $100 seemed like a great challenge!
Our team made a list of notepads, pens, markers, post its, folders, packages of printer and writing paper and of course supplies to host our nightly events (read snacks and candy), then headed off to Walmart (with my little helper in tow).
Firstly, I was really impressed with the office supplies that were available at Walmart. They carried key brands, but also had their own brand at lower prices (perfect when you are on a budget or entrepreneurs like our momstown team). I went up and down the 3 aisles of supplies and found everything on my list...and more! I chose the Walmart branded markers, pads, paper and pens to be sure I could stick to my $100 budget. I got the necessary coloured paper, pens for our team swag bags, coloured markers and post it notes for our workshops and even notepads for all 27 of us!
Next stop was the candy and entertaining aisle to get the necessary snacks for our Games Night during our conference (our momstown team will thank me!). Team building events should always include candy and chocolate, don't you think?
I was a bit nervous getting to the check out. My cart was FULL and I only had $100 to spend. I was a bit panicked, so I put the priority items up first (believe it or not, it wasn't the chocolate!) and crossed my fingers! I asked for subtotal as we got to the "extra" items and learned that I still had about $20 to go! I added on the other snacks and wish items and we got to $100! The only thing I had to put back was a pack of printer paper and some chocolate! I was thrilled and amazed that all of our momstown conference items had been bought at Walmart for $100! No trip to the business store required- I had become a Frugal Hero!
What project would you choose for a $100 challenge?
