Why Beaches Resorts is a Family Favourite for all-inclusive Caribbean Family Vacations

beaches negril family resort

I got to hug Big Bird, dance with Ernie, high five Grover and cuddle with Elmo. I felt like a child again and can’t wait to bring my children back to Beaches Negril to experience the joy and happiness that Sesame Street brings to Jamaica.

momstown was lucky enough to attend a press trip hosted by  Visit Jamaica, the Tourist Board of Jamaica. Our first stop was at Beaches Negril, a resort that should be on all families’ lists. It’s a stunning tropical all-inclusive resort, complete with the beach, awesome pools and comfortable rooms but it has so much more that we needed a top 10 list to describe this perfect family destination!

momstown's top 10 Reasons why Beaches Resorts should be on your family’s list for all-inclusive resorts

beaches sesame street

1.    Sesame Street

Every night there is a Stage show which is incredible (like one you would pay big bucks to see locally!). Most evenings there's also a Parade through the resort with a full steel drum band with the host of Sesame  characters dancing through the gardens. Once a week there’s a huge Beach Dance Party hosted by the characters. The Sesame theme is carried through the entire resort, with character labels at the buffet into to the children’s areas. It will make your heart sing when you experience the magic Sesame Street adds to this resort.

2.    It’s in Jamaica, mon!

Jamaica is beautiful and the people are beyond friendly. Thoroughly happy to have you as guest in their country, tourists are treated with respect and welcomed.  WestJet flies many direct flights to Jamaica from central Canadian locations which makes getting to Jamaica even easier.

3.    Beyond gorgeous beach and ocean

Seven-mile beach is beyond stunning, a suitably breathtaking scene to enjoy the entire vacation. Perfect for long walks, a dip in the ocean or to spend long lazy days on.

4.    All inclusive Kids Camp with flexible options

Incredible children’s club with jam-packed daily programming (run by Certified Nannies)! Days  include both activities in the children’s village and around the property and children can pop in and out as you wish. Infants have a designated bright and fun space to be cared for and the toddlers even have a special mini pool. Quality childcare is such a nice addition to a family vacation, you don’t have to spend 100% of your time with your kids if you don’t want to and when you reconnect later in the day, you’re all refreshed. Even better, Kids Club  is 100% included in your vacation package!

5.    Adult time

When your children are in the children’s programming, adults can enjoy the stunning Red Lane Spa (beautiful!) or head out to experience watersports or golf or just relax on your own! Family vacations can include adult time. Having the ability to enjoy uninterrupted time as a couple while relaxing as a family is an awesome bonus.

6.    WATER!

Behold Beaches Pirate Island Water Park complete with toddler spray park! Ocean front waterslides and a fun toddler spray park. Need we say more? Plus 3 giant pools which are beautiful  and sparkling to take a dip in anytime you wish.  The weather is hot and humid in Jamaica and these pools will become your best friend.  Does it sound like a child’s dream come true?

7.    7 restaurants with delicious food for all ages.

Food is important, you’re spending money at an all-inclusive, you want to have a great dining experience. Options are key at Beaches, with 7 buffet or full-service restaurants every meal is delicious and fun.   As a family resort Beaches really tries to cater to the small guests, the buffet has shorter counter for the dishes that appeal to children, entertainment abounds in the restaurants (singing Japenese chefs!) and crayons are easy to come by. Kids will enjoy a variety of child-friendly foods (not just nuggets and fries!) and parents will be happy for the nutritious variety for everyone.

8.    Amazing Accommodations

Comfortable rooms with super comfortable beds are scattered all over the resort meaning most of them have a beautiful view. The staff make this resort extra special too, from bellhops to front deck to entertainment or wait staff, we found the team operating the hotel to be top notch at every touchpoint.

9.    Loads of Excursions Options.

Our group drove a short distance to swim with dolphins which was an life-changing and incredible experience beyond words. We also took a catamaran trip out to the famous Rick’s Café. Popping off the resort just to get an authentic 'non-resort' feel of Jamaica can be fun too - we visited Scotchies a favourite jerk restaurant.

10.    Big Kids will love it too

The Sesame Street draw might not do it they are too old for Ernie & Bert. With Scratch DJ Academy, Xbox Play Lounge and Club Liquid, there’s lots of space to ignore the Sesame scene if they choose (but the kid in everyone will still love seeing Bird Birds head sauntering amoung the palm trees!)

Thank-you Visit Jamaica for sending momstown to explore and enjoy Beaches Resorts! We can't wait to return with our families and enjoy the joy through their eyes!

Creating a Special Photo Book with Blurb.ca

I've made several photobooks.  For anniversaries, special birthdays and to remember special family trips.

The site that I feel the most comfortable on is Blurb.ca.  Yes, there are many others and I've tried some of them too, but I was introduced to Blurb when a sweet friend, Jacki, had my personal blog turned into a book just after Zack died.  It was her way of getting my blog into my hands to document our journey and the way our life was with our son.  I was so touched that she took the time to create such a special gift for me. There are truly no words to explain what it feels like to have your words put into print.  It was like holding onto those memories in my hands.

This past Christmas, I decided to make a special book about my son Zack, who died almost two years ago and give it to several relatives, as a way to remember him.

I wanted to include all of our favourite family photos with him, some silly shots, photos from his therapy and shots with his loving brothers.  I spent several nights uploading all of the photos (it's so easy to upload from Facebook and Instagram) and using the templates to create the perfect layouts, background colours and space for text.

I spent hours going through old photos, which we save by month, and sorting them so I'd have the perfect glimpse into our life with Zack.  I wanted to show his laughter, his meltdowns, his favourite things and his love for his family- especially his two brothers, so that they could enjoy this book too.  I wanted to use photos that showed his determination to walk and the pride he had when we accomplished the impossible.  I wanted the "walnut cheek" to be captured when he belly laughed for his daddy and I wanted those deep brown eyes to glisten on each page.  It was almost impossible to choose which photos made the cut, but after hours and hours, I think I got it right.  I shed several tears making this masterpiece, but what was clear to me, in looking back on our years with Zack, was that he was deeply loved and he loved back with his whole heart.

I didn't want to rush the process or put added pressure on an already emotional project, so I was lucky that Blurb.ca has an e-book and PDF feature that you can view online or on your iPad.  Just before Christmas, I was able to send an electronic copy to my parents, Zack's godmother, and Paul and I could keep a copy of the book.

making a special photo book, blurb.ca

Do you have hundreds of photos from Christmas?  Do you have a new baby and want to document each year with a special book?  Did you just take a dream trip and want to create a way to share the photos?   Family recipes you want to compile in a proper book?  How about turning your blog into a real coffee table book?  You can preserve all of the memories with a book from Blurb....and it makes the perfect gift!

You can easily and affordably publish your own bookstore-quality books and ebooks with Blurb, a creative publishing platform that lets you design, publish and share professional-quality books starting at just $4.95 and ebooks for a one time publish fee of $9.99 (I loved this option!).

Here are some Blurb book ideas for inspiration:

Wedding or New Baby book –  Turn your wedding memories and baby milestones into a book that you will treasure and admire for years.

Photo book –  Dive into the hard drive or shoebox and build a book that documents a special occasion like a wedding, birthday, or other major event.

Cookbook –  Over 70 per cent of Canadians have been asked by family members to share recipes.  Instead of sharing recipes on a scrap of paper or recipe card that can easily be lost, share them with a family cookbook that can be shared, sold and maintained for generations to come.

Facebook or Instagram Book – Turn your Facebook or Instagram album into a printed book in just a few clicks.

Blog Book –  If someone in your family is a blogger, surprise them this holiday with a hard copy book of their blog.

Planner  – Weave your favourite photos throughout a beautiful customized personal planner. There’s nothing like seeing special memories interspersed throughout your weekly appointments all year long.
